Created an Original WordPress Theme with AI in 2 Days. I Also Openly Share Outsourcing Rates and Estimated Production Costs

I created an original WordPress theme in just two days.
(In fact, this site is now using the original theme I made this time.)

To be precise, I built most of the theme on day one, and on day two I fine-tuned the display details, design, navigation flow, and so on, so the actual work period was two days.
And this time, I didn’t rely only on manual work—I also made heavy use of AI throughout the process.

Lately, people often say that “using AI makes production faster,” but many people probably wonder how much can actually be created in practice.
And another thing people are curious about is how much it would cost if something like this were outsourced.

So this time, while organizing the details of the WordPress original theme I actually built,
“how much would it cost to outsource this?”
“How much can be done in a short time by using AI?”
I’ll summarize those points in an easy-to-understand way.

To begin with, what I made this time is not just a simple theme.
It’s an original theme designed with real-world operation in mind, not just appearance.

And if you outsource something at this level, even at the low end, it still comes at a considerable cost.
In other words, by making good use of AI, we’re now in an era where a large amount of production cost and time can be reduced.

What This WordPress Original Theme Includes

The theme I created this time is an original WordPress theme built with the site’s worldview, navigation flow, and readability in mind.

It’s not just about making blog posts display properly;
it’s also designed so that it is:
“easy for visitors to view,”
“easy to immerse yourself in the site’s atmosphere,”
“easy to lead readers to the next action after reading an article.”

For example, on the top page, I made sure the first view has a strong visual impact.
Not only background images, but also background video usage, overlay effects, catch copy, and button navigation can be adjusted.

The top page listing is also not just a simple list of the latest posts;
it includes a structure that considers operations, such as switching to popular posts.
It’s not just decoration—it’s built with the assumption that the site will actually be grown over time.

I also put a lot of thought into readability and site exploration on article pages.
The theme handles important elements for media operation, such as the table of contents, heading organization, article navigation, sharing links, and guidance at the end of the article.

In addition, there are many items that can be adjusted from the admin screen,
including the header, top-page presentation, list display, article display, and footer area, making it easy to modify without rewriting code as much as possible.

In other words, this is not just a theme that “can be displayed in WordPress,”
but an original theme designed to be easy to use and improve over time.

How Much Would It Cost to Outsource This?

When people see a theme like this, this is probably the first thing they want to know.

“If I asked a production company or freelancer to make this, how much would it cost?”

In reality, WordPress theme production prices vary quite a lot.
The reason is that even though people say “original theme production,”

• whether it starts from scratch with a custom design
• whether it is based on an existing theme
• how many admin-screen adjustment features are included
• whether article navigation and browsing flow are fully designed
• whether revisions and maintenance are included

These factors make a big difference in price.

That said, if you’re talking about a fairly well-built original theme like the one I made this time,
I don’t think it can be done at the price level of a cheap job.

My feeling is that for content like this,
around 80,000 yen is a good benchmark.

Of course, the price may vary depending on specifications, number of pages, detailed features, and revision rounds.
Still, for a theme at the level I’m describing in this article,
it should be easier to think of it as around 80,000 yen as a baseline rather than “doing everything completely for a few tens of thousands of yen.”

Production Is Possible Even With a Budget of Around 30,000 Yen

At this point, some people may be thinking, “I can’t spend that much, but I still want something that feels like an original theme.”

In that case, production may still be possible from around 30,000 yen.

However, at that price range, it won’t be exactly the same level as the theme introduced in this article.

For example,

• narrowing down the features
• making the design simpler
• reducing the number of items adjustable from the admin screen
• simplifying detailed navigation and visual effects

That kind of approach would make the overall build a little lighter.

So yes, you can create something from around 30,000 yen,
but compared with a fully built original theme like this one,
the functionality and design will inevitably be a bit simpler.

Even so, for someone who wants to have a site that matches their own worldview or who feels that a ready-made theme just doesn’t fit, I think it’s a very meaningful option.

Why Can AI Help Build It This Fast?

What I really felt this time is that AI is not just a code-generation tool.

Of course, AI is very powerful when it comes to implementation.
But what’s truly valuable is how it boosts the speed of the whole production process—through design brainstorming, structure organization, breaking down implementation, confirming direction, and considering small improvement ideas.

This time too, while making decisions like:
“What structure should I use?”
“What should be editable from the admin screen?”
“How far should I build this out?”
“In what order should I proceed?”
I moved forward by combining AI into the process.

So it wasn’t that AI made everything by itself,
but rather that a person designed it, and AI dramatically boosted production speed.

That was the really big part.

In the past, it would have been much harder to shape something at this level in such a short time.
But now, as long as you have a clear direction, AI can help you raise production speed quite a bit.

My Impression: The Big Picture in One Day, Fine-Tuning on Day Two

In this project, I was able to move a lot of the major parts forward on the first day.
Then on the second day, I adjusted the spacing, visual balance, navigation flow, and how each part looked, and brought the whole thing together.

So rather than saying “everything was completely finished in one day,”
the most accurate way to describe it is that I built the core of the theme on day one and finished the details on day two.

Even so, it was still two days.
And when you consider that what I built in those two days would cost a fair amount if outsourced, it makes the potential of AI-assisted production feel very large.
