When someone treasures what you treasure, you feel joy deep in your heart

Today I suddenly thought of something. It was a small event that happened while living with a kitten, but for me it felt incredibly big.
Long ago, when another cat used to run around the house, there were many scratch marks left on the flooring. Thin lines had built up in places, and every time I saw them I thought, “This is where life happened,” and at the same time, “If this goes on, the floor will keep getting damaged.” So I used repair material for flooring to gradually fill in and fix those scratches.
The kitten kept watching me do that.
Very intently. Really, from the beginning of the work to the end, it seemed to never take its eyes off me.
I interact with this kitten every day, so I kind of know. There are moments when this child seems to be “trying to understand a human’s feelings.” Of course, whether a cat truly understands with that intention is something I can’t know unless I ask the cat. But there are definitely parts that seem that way.
For example, when I carefully say, based on trust, “That’s not okay,” there are times when the kitten stops doing it. Even though words don’t directly carry over, when I sincerely convey what I want to say, it gradually gets through. I’ve had that kind of experience many times.
This kitten is truly a good one. It almost never made mistakes with the litter box from the start, learned on its own, and every day tries hard to adapt to life. It watches humans closely too, and every day purrs with its throat, living happily. Even though it’s still a kitten, it feels like a child who is trying to “live properly.”
